The first Rick Riordan Presents title, Aru Shah and the End of Time by Roshani Chokshi, has been picked up by Paramount Pictures in the hopes of adapting it for film!
I’ve been gushing over Aru Shah since it hit store shelves in late March. In my review, I said it was a worthy title to launch Disney-Hyperion’s new imprint, Rick Riordan Presents, which will feature mythological stories a la Percy Jackson, as told by different authors.
Now, Deadline is reporting that Paramount has landed the movie rights for Chokshi’s book, stating, “The studio sees the potential for a franchise that is a cross between Wizard of Oz and Coco, with a touch of Night at the Museum.”
There will be four books in the series, which focus on Hindu mythology, replacing the traditional Pandava Brothers with a set of reincarnated, modern Pandava Sisters. The book is a lot of fun, for kids and adults alike, and is a great read for anyone who has fallen in love with the Percy Jackson series. (I’ve even speculated about whether or not Aru Shah exists within the Percy Jackson universe.)
Karen Rosenfelt will be producing, with her previous credits including both the Twilight Saga and Percy Jackson.
The Percy Jackson movies did not land well with its fans or its author, and so Fox only ever made two out of the five books into films. Let’s hope Paramount includes Chokshi in the making of the film and strives to keep it as close to the source material as possible.
