This week’s Arrowverse episodes were Supergirl 3×10 “Legion of Superheroes,” The Flash 4×10 “The Trial of the Flash,” Black Lightning 1×01 “The Resurrection,” and Arrow 6×10 “Divided.” We recap the week in CW superheroes!
Note: We’re aware Black Lightning isn’t technically part of the Arrowverse. However, it comes from the same creative tree as the Arrowverse and has the potential to join in the future, so it will be included in this weekly roundup.
‘Supergirl’ 3×10 ‘Legion of Superheroes’
Kara has been in a coma for two days since her brutal beating at Reign’s hands. As the Legion’s healing tanks help her improve physically, she meets Brainiac-5, another Legion member. Eventually, the tank drains, but something keeps Kara trapped in her mind. She uses clues her subconscious leaves to realize that she needs to embrace Kara Danvers once and for all.
Meanwhile, Reign turns her attention to both criminals and those who would allow crime to happen. The DEO stages a bank robbery and uses the last Kryptonite they have on Reign, but it fails and Alex’s leg is snapped.
At first, Mon-El is hesitant to get involved because the Legion has the solution to defeating a foe from the future written into their DNA as a means of assuring it reaches the future. If they die, the information is lost. But Imra convinces him that the DEO needs help, and the Legion suits up. J’onn, the Legion, and a still-weak Supergirl face off against her, and Supergirl succeeds in injecting Kryptonite directly into Reign’s bloodstream.
This forces Reign to return to her fortress, where she learns that there are others like her, and Thomas Coville promises to help her find them.
‘The Flash’ 4×10 ‘The Trial of the Flash’
With Cecile defending him, Barry goes on trial for the murder of Clifford DeVoe. The evidence effectively points to him, and doubts about his reliability — and that of those who would defend him, like Captain Singh — pop up. Cecile and Iris urge Barry to reveal his identity as The Flash, which would be a surefire way to keep the jury from convicting him, but Barry refuses on the grounds that it would endanger everyone around him.
Joe and Ralph catch pictures of Marlize and Clifford-as-Dominique kissing, but Marlize explains the images away while she’s on the stand. When Barry, once and for all, refuses to take the stand, Cecile is forced to rest her case. But during closing statements, Barry leaves (a bad look) to stop a man who was overloaded with radiation and could destroy the city. He takes some damage, but with Cisco’s help, sends the radiation to a dead Earth, thus saving the city.
As Captain Singh awards The Flash with an award for valor, Barry is convicted and sentenced to life without parole for Clifford’s murder. And when he arrives in Iron Heights, he realizes he is in his father’s old cell.
‘Black Lightning’ 1×01 ‘The Resurrection’
It’s been nine years since Black Lightning protected the streets of Freeland. In that time, Jefferson Pierce has worked to improve his community as principal of Garfield High. He has two daughters, Anissa — a med student who also teaches at Garfield — and Jennifer — a star scholar athlete — and an ex-wife, Lynn, whom he’d like to reconcile with. However, the town has also been overrun with a gang, The One Hundred, led by Tobias Whale.
Racial tensions are high in Freeland, and Jefferson, moments before being introduced at a fundraiser by a senator, is pulled over for driving while Black. Jefferson’s rage — and electrical meta abilities — simmers just under the surface.
He gets the chance when Jennifer is pulled into a gang conflict at a club. To rescue her, he attacks The One Hundred with his abilities and ends up taking down a couple of cops with their own tasers as well. However, he doesn’t leave the scene unscathed and ends up returning to Peter Gambi, his old ally. Gambi sews him up and encourages him to get back in the vigilante game, but Jefferson is hesitant.
But when The One Hundred come to the school and take Jennifer and Anissa, all hesitance goes out the door. Even Lynn gives her grudging assent to him doing what needs to be done. Gambi provides him a new suit, and Black Lightning goes to work. He rescues Jennifer and Anissa while realizing things are not over for Black Lightning.
‘Arrow’ 6×10 ‘Divided’
Signal interference with Diggle’s tech makes the team realize that Laurel bugged the bunker. Green Arrow is then contacted by Helena Bertinelli’s cousin, leader of the Bertinelli crime syndicate. He was confronted by James’ crew; they want the port that he controls and threatened his daughter. But when Green Arrow tracks James down, he’s confronted by James’ allies.
Oliver agrees to share intel with Dinah, Curtis and Rene since they are compromised as well, but he refuses to go into the field with them. Dinah is horrified to learn that Vince is working with James, and she confronts him. He knocks her out and flees.
Dinah heads to Rene’s apartment, where Rene and Curtis have just deduced that James leaked audio of Rene in the bunker to Agent Watson. They decide to start their own team rather than rejoin Oliver.
Meanwhile, Team Arrow coordinates a fight between Bertinelli’s men and James’ allies. During the fight, Green Arrow is incapacitated and Bertinelli turns on him. He escapes in an explosion while Bertinelli surrenders the port before being executed.
Oliver realizes he doesn’t have the numbers to take on James, so OTA meets with the newbies. Oliver acknowledges that there is blame to go around and asks for a clean slate. The others, however, aren’t interested. Oliver wishes them luck, and Curtis turns over a finalized chip for Diggle, which stabilizes his hand. Curtis also repurposes Helix’s old lair for the new team.
Meanwhile, Thea does her best to support Quentin through his crisis of faith with Black Siren.
