Expect to see a few familiar faces pop up in the final season of Arrow.
The eighth and final season of Arrow promises to be an exciting conclusion to The CW’s juggernaut superhero hit, with Oliver finding himself “pit against his most challenging battle yet, one that will leave the multiverse hanging in the balance,” according to the official season release information.
We’re sure that there’ll be epic battle scenes and emotional farewells.
And — as EW reported this morning — a couple of familiar faces joining in on the fray.
The final season will see the return of Colin Donnell and Josh Segarra, though not — in the words of showrunner/executive producer Beth Schwartz — in the ways in which we would expect.
Fans will remember Colin Donnell as Oliver’s best friend/Laurel’s lover Tommy Merlyn all the way back in season 1. His death in the season 1 finale served as a catalyst for many of Arrow’s main characters at the time — motivating Oliver to become a better, more humane hero; spiraling Laurel Lance into a deep depression; and pushing his father, Malcom Merlyn, to become more involved in his daughter, Thea’s, life.
Josh Segarra played Adrian Chase/Prometheus, the season 5 big bad who — for a time — masqueraded as Oliver Queen’s friend and helped him to rid the streets of crime as Star City’s district attorney. He was a formidable opponent, one who attacked both Green Arrow’s city and his legacy, Oliver eventually defeated him and A.R.G.U.S imprisoned him. While he did end up escaping to Lian Yu, his final face-off against Oliver ended with his suicide.
Since both characters have died within the universe — and because this is Arrow — fans should expect both characters to return decidedly different than when we last knew them.
Arrow will return to the CW for its eighth and final season on Oct. 15.
