Ariana Grande is receiving unnecessary hate in the wake of her ex-boyfriend Mac Miller’s sudden death.
Miller, whose real name was Malcolm McCormick, died at the age of 26 on Friday, September 7. The rapper, who died of a suspected drug overdose, was pronounced dead at 11:51 a.m. at his home in Studio City, California, according to TMZ, who was first to break the news.
Though the rapper was known for such hits as “My Favorite Part” and “Nikes On My Feet,” those unfamiliar with his successful music career might also recognize him from his high-profile relationship with Ariana Grande.
The “God Is A Woman” singer and the Swimming rapper dated from 2016 until May 9, 2018, when the couple publicly confirmed their split.
Now, in the wake of Miller’s unexpected death, Grande has become the target of unnecessary hate.
According to BuzzFeed, the powerhouse vocalist temporarily disabled the comments on her Instagram on Friday afternoon shortly after the tragic news broke.
Though Grande has yet to explain why she did so, many fans noticed an onslaught of comments from trolls pouring in blaming the Sweetener singer for Miller’s death.
This isn’t the first time Grande has come under fire after ending her relationship with the rapper. Shortly after the split when Miller got a DUI, fans took to Twitter to blame the singer for the rapper’s own actions.
Grande crafted a strongly worded response to one Twitter user in particular, calling the relationship “toxic.”
She also spoke of Miller’s drug abuse writing, “I have cared for him and tried to support his sobriety and prayed for his balance for years (and always will of course) but shaming/blaming women for a man’s inability to keep his shit together is a very major problem.”
We’re disgusted to learn that there are users on the internet who think it’s ok to blame Grande for something that was very much out of her control.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to both Grande and Miller’s fans in the wake of his tragic passing.
