The Hollywood Reporter announced that Graphic India, the company who partnered with Stan Lee on his first Indian superhero, Chakra, will be partnering with Archie Comics to create a live-action Bollywood film based on the characters. Archie Comics CEO Jon Goldwater was excited about the new partnership, saying, “Archie’s lasting and growing presence in India made this move the logical next step as our stellar library of characters continues to expand into other media.”
Of course, the adaptation is going to be a bit more thoughtful than taking Archie, Jughead, Veronica, and Betty and slapping them in the middle of Mumbai. The story and the characters will be reimagined to make them more Indian, while still keeping those classic elements of the Archie Comics that made us all fans in the first place.
Graphic India CEO Sharad Devarajan expressed his own excitement on the new project to THR, especially given the impact that Archie Comics have already had on Bollywood. “Archie, Betty, Veronica and Jughead have been a source of inspiration for numerous Bollywood films over the years, and now it’s time to take them fully into Bollywood in an exciting new twist of a story that we have planned.”
We can’t wait to hear more about this project. Casting news and release dates haven’t been issued yet, but with all of the passion for this project coming from Archie Comics and Graphic India, this is definitely going to be a movie all Archie Comics fans will love!
