Casting continues to roll in with the tide for Aquaman, and this time we’re getting a new character related to the King of Atlantis himself.
Last week we learned that Aquaman will be released in theaters on October 5, 2018. The movie will be directed by James Wan (Furious 7) and will star Jason Momoa as Aquaman and Amber Heard as Mera, Aquaman’s wife.
Deadline is also reporting that we’ll be seeing Aquaman’s half-brother Orm, as played by Patrick Wilson (The Conjuring, Insidious). It is a co-starring role.
In the initial origin story, Orm, also known as Ocean Master, is a supervillain. The character’s origin is an interesting one, as Orm Curry was Arthur Curry’s fully human half-brother. He had none of his brother’s powers and resented the fact that he grew up in his shadow.
Orm was a petty thief when he got amnesia and disappeared, reemerging later as Orm Marius. He continued his life of theft as a pirate, but he soon started causing havoc by controlling natural disasters. He and Aquaman obviously went toe to toe, though the superhero couldn’t strike down his brother.
Orm can’t breathe underwater, and therefore had to create a suit. In so doing, he also decided to attempt to take the throne from his brother. Orm eventually regained his memories, but that didn’t stop him from wanting to take his brother out of the picture.
We also know Black Manta will play a villainous role in Aquaman, but no news yet on who will be cast. We also don’t know whether Manta or Orm will play the larger adversary.
