The Spice Girls are experiencing quite the comeback, currently touring the U.K., and now an animated movie about the group is heading our way.
Mireille Soria, the president of Paramount Animation, built a senior staff comprised primarily of women, and she’s taking her corporate work of female empowerment and “girl power” into a new realm with the studio’s latest project. Paramount has announced they will be bringing us a new, animated Spice Girls movie that is currently slated for release in 2020.
The Spice Girls were huge back in the late ’90s, and have enjoyed quite a marvelous comeback over the past few years, performing at the Olympics in London, and spending the summer on tour in the UK (minus Posh). And it seems Spice Fever isn’t over yet as all five original members (yep, even Posh) will be teaming up for this new animated movie.
As The Hollywood Reporter explains, the new movie will feature some classic Spice Girls tunes as well as a few new songs. And while the film is being produced by Simon Fuller and written by Karen McCullah and Kiwi Smith, the Spice Girls are very involved in the creation of this movie. In fact, as Soria explained to THR, the entire project is being developed off of an idea that the band themselves pitched originally.
We don’t yet know what that idea is or what adventures the Spice Girls will find themselves in the midst of. However, if their rollicking, feel-good adventures in Spice World are any indication, this new animated movie will be nothing but good music and fun. Plus, we’re more than a little excited about some new music from one of the most iconic girl groups from the ’90s.
We’ll keep you posted as more news becomes available on the new Spice Girls animated movie. Until then, we’ll be listening to our Spice Girls CDs on repeat.
