Andrea, one of the original characters from The Walking Dead series who got split up from Rick and Co had, until the end of the mid-season finale, been unaware of her original gang’s friction with the Woodbury crowd. But now, with Daryl and Merle pitted against each other in the screamer pits by The Governor, and given what we’ve seen from the official trailer for the mid-season return, who will Andrea choose?
Being Andrea in The Walking Dead can’t be easy.
In season 1 she endured a great loss when Amy, her sister, was attacked by a walker and Andrea was forced to shoot her when she turned. Spinning off into an unforgiving bout of depression, Andrea was beaten down to the point where she contemplated suicide, only carrying on because Dale threatened to join her in death.
Then, in season 2, her saviour and salvation Dale was also attacked by a walker on the farm, which Carl unknowingly lured out of the swamp, and once again Andrea was made to look on as Daryl shot Dale to stop him turning. As well as this, at the end of the season she was accidentally detached from the group and left running in the woods from a horde of zombies until she was rescued by a hooded sword-wielding vindicator (Michonne).
But what about season 3?
Andrea and Michonne
Following a hard winter and ill health, Andrea and Michonne are found at a helicopter crash site by members of the Woodbury clan, captured, and taken to the settlement. Whilst it appears safe and sound, secure and stable, Michonne unconvinced and untrusting of The Governor, discovers hidden secrets that would make anyone run for the hills. Having given Andrea the option to come with her and Andrea declining, she leaves alone.
Andrea and The Governor
Andrea quickly falls for The Governor, whom we know to be a nasty piece of work. He holds Andrea close whilst simultaneously keeping her at arms length. He hides his daughter from her, his fish tanks from her, the news of Glenn and Maggie’s capture, as well as the fact that Andrea’s original team of survivors are holding out in a prison. But, in the final episode before the mid-season break, following an intense battle (in which Maggie and Glenn are recovered from Woodbury but Daryl ensnared in The Governor’s clutches), Andrea looks on in horror as The Governor unveils Daryl as a terrorist on the town and Merle as a traitor. What will she do now?
Andrea and the Others
In the mid-season promo, we see that Andrea makes her way to the prison. However, we don’t know why, under what circumstances and who she’s going to side with. Despite all the follies of her old team, she grew with them and had tough times, but better times as well. However, the Governor and Woodbury have thus far given her what anyone in her position would want: somewhere to call home.
Who will she choose?
Make sure to tune in to AMC on Feb 10 9/8 ET/PT for the mid-season comeback.
