American Horror Story fans, rejoice! FX has just announced that Ryan Murphy’s horror anthology series will get three more seasons.
American Horror Story’s ninth season — which was heavily influenced by slasher films like Halloween and Friday the 13th — ended last November and fans were quickly assured that they would be watching a 10th season, set to release later this year.
Now, American Horror Story fans have even more to celebrate, as FX announced today at the Winter TCA’s that it would be renewing the show for three more seasons.
In a statement from FX chairman John Landgraf, he said, “Ryan and Brad are the undisputed masters of horror TV, having created the anthological limited series with American Horror Story and sustaining its success for nearly a decade as FX’s highest-rated series. We are grateful to them and Dana Walden and our studio partners for committing to another three years. AHS has showcased a wealth of award-winning actors since day one and we appreciate the contributions of everyone, including Ryan, Brad and fellow executive producers Tim Minear, James Wong, Alexis Martin Woodall, and Bradley Buecker, the writers, directors, cast, and crew for each new, unforgettable installment of American Horror Story.”
Over the course of its nine season run, American Horror Story has been nominated for a staggering 95 Emmy Awards and netted 16 wins. According to FX, the series has netted over 1 billion total viewers during those seasons, and has featured such stars as Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Evan Peters, Billie Lourd, Jessica Lange, Emma Roberts, Taissa Farmiga, Lady Gaga, Angela Bassett, Dylan McDermott, and Connie Britton.
The horror anthology show has used every season to explore a different horror genre and setting, giving fans a season set in a haunted house, an insane asylum, within a witches coven and inside a travelling freak show, to name a few.
While creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk haven’t yet revealed the theme for season 10, Ryan Murphy teased that he wanted to bring back “fan favorite” actors and said that he was thinking about space and aliens.
