Amazon will stream for free more than 40 children’s shows to all customers worldwide, meaning you will not need a Prime membership to view them.
The content will be all family-friendly programming and will include a mix of Amazon Original kid and family shows, PBS kid series and other select third-party family movies and TV series licensed from studio partners.
According to TechCrunch, Amazon is continuing to work with content partners in order to add to the collection over time.
Most of the current content in the collection is for preschool through 11-year-olds, and doesn’t include any recently released movies.
Though access to the company’s family-friendly titles is free, users must sign in with a valid Amazon account, which is also free. Shows are available to the company’s customers worldwide; however, the specific availability of titles will depend on your location.
Amazon is providing full access to its original kids’ series and specials, which include titles such as The Dangerous Book for Boys, Lost in Oz, Just Add Magic, Pete the Cat, Costume Quest, and Tumble Leaf.
In the U.S., Amazon is offering a select group of PBS shows for free, including Arthur season 10, Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, Odd Squad, and Dinosaur Train.
The company has set up a landing page for the free kids’ titles at this link.
The move comes as school districts around the nation have postponed school for weeks — or even through to the end of the academic year. By dropping the paywall for their family-friendly fare, Amazon hopes to appeal to beleaguered parents and entice them into signing up for an Amazon Prime account, which costs $119 per year.
In addition, the eCommerce company has also put together a list of over 80 family movies that are also available to watch for free — though with ads — through its IMDb subsidiary, IMDb TV.
The free IMDb TV movies include: Scooby-Doo: The Movie and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, both Stuart Little films, The Muppets Take Manhattan and Muppets From Space, both The Smurfs movies, Megamind and All Dogs Go to Heaven.
