Altered Carbon season 2 is finally returning to Netflix with a brand new lead in Anthony Mackie and a bunch of new cast members after a long two years of waiting.
Altered Carbon season 1 first premiered on Netflix in February of 2018 and captivated fans with its intricate world building, its complicated murder-mystery storyline and its badass cast of characters.
Now, more than two years later, Altered Carbon will return to Netflix for a second season, only this time with Avengers star Anthony Mackie stepping into the leading role that was formerly occupied by actor Joel Kinnaman.
Based on author Richard K. Morgan’s sci-fi novel of the same name, Altered Carbon is set more than 300 years into the future, in a society where human consciousness can be digitized, human bodies are interchangeable items called sleeves and death has been stripped of its permanence.

In season 1 of Altered Carbon, Joel Kinnaman played Takeshi Kovacs, a lone survivor of an elite group of interstellar warriors whose consciousness is resurrected into a new body — or sleeve — centuries after his ‘death’ by James Purefoy’s Laurens Bancroft. Season 1 centered around Kinnaman’s character working to solve the mystery of Bancroft’s death in exchange for another chance to live again.
Season 2 will see the MCU’s Anthony Mackie stepping into the role vacated by Joel Kinnaman, playing Takeshi Kovacs wearing a brand new sleeve. Joining Mackie will be Luke Cage’s Simone Missick as Trepp, Power’s Lela Loren as Danica Harlan, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan’s Dina Shihabi as Dig 301, Homeland’s Torben Liebrecht as Colonel Ivan Carrera, and The Terror’s James Saito as Tanaseda Hideki.
Returning from season 1 will be Renee Elise Goldsberry as Quellcrist Falconer, Chris Conner as Edgar Poe and Will Yun Lee as the original Takeshi Kovacs.
Altered Carbon season 2 will be released on Netflix on February 27.
