The first preview for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 3 shows major changes — and major dangers — in progress for our favorite agents.
“My name is Daisy. I’m with S.H.I.E.L.D. and we’re here for your protection.”
So begins the long-awaited Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 3 preview, the first major piece of promotion released by ABC since San Diego Comic-Con. Right from the start, the preview (introduced by Chloe Bennet and Clark Gregg) makes it eminently clear that Director Coulson and his team have, shall we say, transformed since we last saw them.
Skye is now Daisy, short-haired and confident in recruiting newborn Inhumans like Joey (Juan Pablo Raba). Coulson is grimmer and out in the field, while Lincoln and Mack continue to dance uneasily around each other. As ever, trust between the powered and non-powered factions of the team seems as fragile as our emotions right now.
And back at the base, Fitz seems to have some kind of crazy plan up his sleeve. (And his clothes are very different, which unnerves us.) The scientist strides into the room with the Simmons-swallowing Kree rock, gun in hand, but that isn’t even the most shocking bit. At some point in the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 3 premiere, the Simmons-less Fitz will apparently find himself kidnapped for some reason!
(Maybe it’s an intervention.)
Though the preview doesn’t have time to show us much of May and Bobbi, or loud-and-proud baddie Ward, it’s eminently clear that the stakes are as high as they have ever been for Coulson and the agents of S.H.I.E.L.D….
…and they’re about to get even higher. The final seconds of the preview show us the shadowy — and terrifying — figure of Lash (Matthew Willig), an Inhuman with devastating power and a terrible agenda.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 3 premieres on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 9:00 p.m. on ABC.
