The trailer for The Report starring Adam Driver is a stark look into the true story behind CIA interrogation tactics.
Most of us first became aware of Adam Driver during his time on the HBO series Girls, but since that time he’s amazed audiences in a shockingly wide range of roles. From drama to adventure to comedy and more, he has the innate ability to captivate audiences, and in the trailer for his latest movie, The Report, he does it again.
The Report is a film from Amazon Prime Video and tells the true story behind the investigation into the CIA’s Detention and Interrogation program. Born out of 9/11 and meant to capture and prosecute those individuals responsible for the attacks, the investigation ultimately uncovered shocking, inhumane treatment of those being held and ways that the CIA was subverting the law.
In the new trailer, we get a glimpse into the investigation that shocked a nation. Adam Driver plays Daniel J. Jones, a real man tasked by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (Annette Benning) to look into the CIA’s controversial program, and he delivers what seems to be a powerhouse performance.
As we see in the trailer, Jones’ investigation quickly turns up some incredibly troubling things. During the course of his investigation, Jones uncovered the extreme lengths the CIA went to while covering up evidence of their brutal “interrogation” tactics.
Choosing Adam Driver as the lead is an especially poignant choice. Not only is Driver a great actor, but just as his character Daniel J. Jones changed his career path to national security in the wake of 9/11, Adam Driver also enlisted in the military after the attacks. The similar motivations for the person Driver plays and his own personal life clearly have been a boon to his performance.
Of course, one actor doesn’t make a great movie, and Driver is supported by a truly amazing cast. In addition to Benning, the cast of The Report is filled with talented individuals like Jon Hamm, Sarah Goldberg, Michael C. Hall, Douglas Hodge, Fajer Kaisi, Ted Levine, Jennifer Morrison, Tim Blake Nelson, Linda Powell, Matthew Rhys, T. Ryder Smith, Corey Stoll, and Maura Tierney.
This film is likely to garner a fair bit of Oscar buzz, so it’s not one you want to miss. You can catch The Report in select theaters on November 15, and on Amazon Prime beginning November 29.
