The 2019 Oscars went smoothly despite a years worth of road bumps and ultimately no host.
The Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody and Alfonso Cuaron’s Roma were the big winners of the night with three Oscars each. Green Book (the Golden Globes favorite) came in second with three Oscar wins, but ultimately won Best Picture.
Queen and Adam Lambert opened the show with a live performance of “We Will Rock You” and “We Are The Champions” — the iconic rock band is nominated this year for Bohemian Rhapsody. Then we were treated to a monologue from Maya Rudolph, Tina Fey, and Amy Poehler, who made fun of this year’s event being host-less.
The Oscars didn’t feel any different without a host. The show went just as well as any year previous, and I personally wouldn’t mind it remaining host-less in future years. The host only serves as a promotional vehicle. They don’t necessarily improve the quality of the evening.
