Film Independent kicked off this year’s awards season race with today’s Indie Spirit Award nominations. Check out the full list of nominees now!
The Indie Spirit Awards mark the first big set of nominations for the year’s awards season. Their nominations have become a surefire way of predicting films that will ultimately be nominated, and even win, the Oscar. In the past four years, the Indie Spirit Award winner for Best Feature went on to win Best Picture at the Oscars. Looking at this year’s nominee, there are some really exciting choices up for nomination, including Jordan Peele’s directorial debut Get Out and Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird.
Luca Guadagnino’s film Call Me by Your Name leads the pack with the most nominations, scoring six nods in feature, director, lead actor, supporting actor, cinematography, and editing categories. Get Out also racked up some big nominations, landing nods in feature, director, screenplay, editing, and lead actor categories. These nominations set them at the front of the pack as we enter awards season.
Some exciting surprises include Taliah Lennice Webster for Supporting Actress in Good Time and Chloe Zhao’s film The Rider receiving nods for best feature, director, cinematography, and editing.
Regardless of who wins, there’s no doubt that these nominations serve as an excellent movie viewing guide for the best of what the year has to offer! Take a look at the full list of nominations below!
