The first movie in J.K. Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them trilogy will be released November 18, 2016.
Now with a release date set, the focus will turn to Warner Bros. as they select a director. Then we should be hearing about which actors will be filling out the cast of the highly anticipated adaptation. Fans may recall that previous Potter films have also been given November release dates.
David Heyman will be producing the Fantastic Beasts series. He produced all eight Harry Potter movie and is thus an important part of the spinoff’s potential success.
The new series is the brainchild of Potter author J.K. Rowling, who is writing the first movie’s screenplay. “To be honest, it was seventeen years [since she started writing Harry Potter]. And now I’m back there,” she said in November. “In a very different way, it’s different characters, but it is the same world. I think part of me will forever live there. And I’m not sorry about that.”
Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara is credited with talking the author into creating the potential new franchise. The project was originally announced in September of last year with Rowling adapting the script from her 2001 book by the fictional Newt Scamander.
