It’s rare that one of the best scenes from a film will be released online in full during it’s theatrical run, but Disney has done that with Frozen.
It’s a smart move.
Disney has released the full version of “Let it Go” online. The song is widely considered the Frozen‘s best, and it features Broadway legend Idina Menzel.
With the soundtrack available, this probably isn’t the first time you’ve gone back and listened to this instant classic, but it’s great to see the stunning visuals along with the song again.
With Frozen still early in its theater run, why is Disney releasing one of the film’s best scenes online?
If Acadamy Awards predictors are to be believed, “Let it Go” is currently the frontrunner to win the award for best original song. As it’s currently the time where nominations are beginning to cross the minds of the Academy (just yesterday we got the visual effects shortlist), Disney wants “Let it Go” and Frozen to be on the Academy’s minds.
It’s no well kept secret that sometimes voters end up voting in categories where they haven’t seen all the films running. With the potential that some members may skip Frozen, Disney is clearly making a smart move by making “Let it Go,” Frozen‘s best bet for an Oscar, easily available.
Frozen had a great opening weekend. In fact, it set the record for Walt Disney Animation Studios. It’s looking to have another great weekend this weekend as well. The film has a rewatchability to it, so it shouldn’t be a surprise if it’s one of the year’s most successful animated films.
