The latest The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug featurette shows behind-the-scenes footage of the giant Beorn and his home. Watch Ian McKellen and Martin Freeman on an enormously oversized set created for Beorn’s home.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug will be hitting theaters on December 13, and today we have the latest featurette which focuses on a new character that we’ll be seeing in the second film: Beorn. Beorn is not quite a giant, but is very large. He also is capable of transforming into a massive bear.
Bilbo makes the comment in The Hobbit that he could easily walk under Beorn’s legs without touching his body. Watch the new behind-the-scenes look at Beorn’s house:
Beorn will help Bilbo and company in their quest to reclaim the Dwarven kingdom beneath Erebor, the Lonely Mountain. He was finally convinced to fight with them after confirming the tale of them battling the Goblins of the Misty Mountains, and Gandalf’s great deeds.
Late last week director Peter Jackson released his latest video blog, which also featured some incredible new behind-the-scenes footage from one of the greatest directors of our time. A lot of the video focused on the spider fights and Lake Town, which will be featured in The Desolation of Smaug.
Warner Bros. has also just released a new banner for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug which features Martin Freeman as Bilbo, along with many new characters that will be introduced in this film. Click on the incredible banner below to view it in HD:

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug release date is set for December 13, 2013. It is the second film in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy based on the novels by revered author J.R.R Tolkien. The final movie in The Hobbit trilogy, There and Back Again, will hit theaters December 17, 2014.
