Breaking Bad season 6 showrunner Vince Gilligan is dropping big hints about how his beloved show will end in the final eight episodes.
In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gilligan suggests that in Breaking Bad season 6 (otherwise known as “the final eight episodes”) Walt will lose his ability to lie. “Walt has been the world’s greatest liar, and I think the person he lies most capably to is himself. So in these final eight episodes, perhaps the lies will cease to find traction and the scales will start to fall away from Walt’s eyes. And when that happens, will Walt really begin to realize who he is? That’s a question that we asked ourselves a lot in the writers’ room this year.”

One of the biggest lies we’ve seen throughout Breaking Bad’s five seasons is the secret life he keeps from numerous family members. Hank, his brother in law, is the cop who’s been after the mysterious Heisenberg meth cook. In the Breaking Bad season 5 finale last year, we watched as Hank finally connected the dots between Heisenberg and Walt.
Elsewhere in the interview, Gilligan warns that the final eight episodes are so packed that you’ll need to pay close attention to the storyline. “We’ve got some stuff that I think is going to be truly satisfying and truly shocking and jarring. It does not always center on moments of violence. I have surprised myself at how much story there was left to tell and how quickly we tell it. You need to really settle down on the couch and pay close attention because it’s going to come at you fast and furious in the final eight episodes.”
Walter White is brilliantly played by Bryan Cranston.
Breaking Bad season 6 kicks off on Sunday, August 11 at 9 p.m. eastern/pacific on AMC. Thanks, EW.
