The filming of the 50th anniversary special of Doctor Who is continuing in Wales. A bit of stunt work for Jenna-Louise Coleman ended up being performed by a man in a wig. (spoiler)
The scene in question was filmed at a secondary school. Clara zooms through the front gates on a motorbike. It wasn’t Jenna-Lousie Colman on the bike, however. It was a male stunt double. Long time set observer, Ryan Farrell took some photos of the action.
Now as to why this school is important, is another spoiler. Classic Doctor Who fans should get the connection right away when they look at the name of the head of the board of governors, and the name of the school itself.
In case all of this wasn’t enough to satiate classic Doctor Who fans, another famous location is used, the very spot where the TARDIS was parked for several months while Susan went to school (photographer Ryan Farrell seated next to the sign). Susan used the address of the junkyard as her fake address, and when Ian and Barbara checked up on her is when things began to unravel and their adventures began. It’s a nice touch that the sign is painted TARDIS blue.
Lastly, you can see a bit of filming below. Note the use of the 3D camera. The special is being released in 3D in limited locations in addition to its TV airing.
