If you surf the website Tumblr you might’ve seen a link go viral today with the announcement that a Friends reunion is coming in the form of a new season next fall. Unfortunately, this is not true.
The thing about the Internet is that you need to take everything you see floating around social media sites with a grain of salt, especially an article by a site with a goofy name like “starMedia.” The article goes on to state that NBC will premiere a new season of the popular sitcom Friends next fall, and it’s premise will revolve around our favorite group catching up and reuniting for the first time since 2004 when they last all saw each other in one place.
However, something smells a little fishy. The actors have repeatedly denied a reunion and in particular both Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry don’t seem interested. LeBlanc doesn’t want to dissapoint fans while Perry shot down those Thanksgiving episode reunions last year.
WBTV confirmed today that the rumor is not true. “Not accurate and not true,” they said.
One reason the rumor may have been so easily believed is the fact that Matt LeBlanc and Lisa Kudrow are getting back together to work on Kudrow’s webseries Web Therapy, as reported by Entertainment Weekly. It seems the world goes crazy as soon as two Friends co-stars reunite on screen, and suddenly we’re clamoring yet again for a Friends reunion!
Update: The show’s co-creator Marta Kauffman has officially stated that a reunion will never happen, specifically: “I’m going to clear this up—it’s not happening!” Kauffman spoke to E! while at the red carpet for Call Me Crazy.
She goes on to say, “Friends was about that time in your life when your friends are your family and once you have a family, there’s no need anymore,” and frankly we agree!
And finally, see what Jennifer Aniston had to say about it when she visited Ellen on April 17:
So that’s it folks, there’s your definite answer for all time. No Friends reunion is ever happening, and if your Facebook or Tumblr friends start spreading some rumor feel free to head ’em over here for clarification!
