The mystery is apparently over for Teen Wolf fans that have been wondering why Colton Haynes (Jackson) left the show. It turns out he’s landed a recurring role on CW’s Arrow.
Haynes’ confirmed departure from the show left Teen Wolf fans in shock, especially since his character was obviously on its way to becoming a significant part of season 3. The door was left open for Haynes to return by executive producer Jeff Davis, but many fans have been scratching their heads, wondering why he would leave and where he would go from here.
Initially, it looked as if Haynes would be landing a role in the upcoming (and highly anticipated) Divergent movie franchise. Whether or not that is still on the table is uncertain, but we do now know that Haynes will be joining the new CW series Arrow.
In a report from TV Guide, we’ve learned that Haynes will begin appearing on the show in 2013 as a character named Roy Harper. Various forms of the character have shown up in different versions of the Green Arrow universe, and it is still uncertain what characteristics this incarnation will take on.
We do know, however, that he will be “a handsome, street-savvy, teenager from ‘the Glades,’ the harsh, poverty-stricken portion of Starling City.” This is quite a deviation from the rich and snobby character Haynes portrayed on Teen Wolf.
In addition to his mysterious character and possible secret identity, Roy Harper will also be a love interest for Thea, played by Willa Holland. He’ll cross paths with her in an “unexpected way,” and is “destined to become a significant part of her life and an important player in the larger world of Arrow.”
It looks like this part will give Haynes more screen time than his Jackson Whittemore character on Teen Wolf, and that could be one of the main reasons why he decided to leave the show.
