Whoa! We’re left speechless by tonight’s Merlin episode “The Dark Tower”! Hurry and watch the promo for next Saturday’s “A Lesson in Vengeance,” if you dare…
Can you believe it? Halfway through series 5, and our first major character has died: Sir Elyan was not even on our radar as a potential casualty, yet here we are.
And not only did we lose Elyan – we may have lost Gwen, as well! Morgana’s cruel game seemed to have worn down her psyche after all, and the Guinevere who came back to Camelot with Arthur, Merlin and the remaining knights is not the Guinevere we know.
Is Gwen enchanted, and if so, will there be a way for Merlin to fix her? Or has she been turned, much like Morgana was, against those she loves because of the pain and loss she has suffered?
We wouldn’t believe in the latter option for a moment if it wasn’t for the fact that the role Guinevere is meant to play in the legends is that of ultimate betrayal against Arthur, and now that Lancelot is gone, perhaps in Merlin this betrayal will come in the form of Gwen joining forces with Morgana and turning against Camelot?
Share your theories in the comments below – are you going to miss Elyan? Will Gwen recover or is she doomed to play the role of the Queen Guinevere of legends? And what about the end of the promo, when Arthur looks well and truly dead?!
The episode description reads:
Darkness steals into the very heart of Camelot as Morgana and her puppet queen hatch a sinister plan to murder the king. But when stable hand Tyr Seward becomes caught in the crossfire, he threatens to ruin everything… As the plot thickens and reaches its deadly climax, can a suspicious Merlin unravel the truth before it is too late?
Merlin 5×07 “A Lesson in Vengeance” airs next Saturday at 20:00 GMT!
