Good news and bad news, Green Day fans. The band has moved up the release date of ¡Tre! – the final installment in its album trilogy – to December, but will cancel all remaining appearances for the year.
Instead of Jan. 15, 2013, ¡Tre! will hit stores Dec. 11, following the Nov. 13 release of ¡Dos!, Green Day announced in a statement Monday.
“We feel bad we have to delay our tour, so to make up for it we want to give our fans the music earlier than we had planned,” Drummer Tré Cool said in the statement. “If we couldn’t be there to play it for you live, the least we could do was give you the next best thing.”
The Bay-area band announced it would have to postpone some promotional appearances after frontman Billie Joe Armstrong checked into rehab last month following a meltdown at the iHeartRadio Music Festival.
We now know those appearances will include the club tour that was supposed to start in Seattle in September and end in Arizona Dec. 11. Appearances scheduled for January and February 2013 will be postponed for later dates, but purchased tickets will be honored on the new dates.
“Obviously the timing for this isn’t ideal, but Billie Joe’s well-being is our main concern,” Bassist Mike Dirnt said in the statement. “We are happy to say that Billie Joe is doing well, and we want to thank you all for the outpouring of support and well wishes that we have received, and we can’t wait to see you all again soon.”
