A first look image inside the Ark for Darren Aronofsky’s Noah reveals lots and lots of snakes.
Director of Photography Matthew Libatique tweeted out the image, with the caption, “Pre lighting on the holiest day of the year.” Take a look at the image below.
With what can be described as heaps and heaps of snakes (and an alligator) loaded into the Ark, this teaser certainly is intriguing. The idea of pairs of each creature on the planet all together on Noah’s Ark was always a pleasant vision when hearing the story as a child, but Aronofsky and Libatique seem to have captured a more sinister take on this tale, which makes sense. Who would want to be surrounded by snakes and spiders such as these?
The film stars Russell Crowe as the titular character who is given the divine mission to build an Ark and save creation from an impending flood. The film co-stars Jennifer Connelly (Requiem for a Dream), Saoirse Ronan (Atonement), Douglas Booth (the upcoming Romeo and Juliet), Logan Lerman (The Perks of Being a Wallflower), Emma Watson (Harry Potter), Ray Winstone (The Departed), Anthony Hopkins (The Silence of the Lambs), Kevin Durand (Lost) and Mark Margolis (The Wrestler), to name just a few.
The film is based on a screenplay from Aronofsky and Ari Handel (The Fountain), with a rewrite by Oscar-nominee John Logan (Gladiator). The film is said to closely follow the biblical tale, although if these first set photos are any indication, we’re in for a much darker take on the story. With all these set photos surfacing, it will be interesting to see when we’ll see some form of official promotional material, such as a one sheet or teaser.
Noah is set for a March 28, 2014 release date from Paramount Pictures.
