Looks like Game of Thrones has finally found its Mance Rayder: Aberforth Dumbledore himself, actor Ciarán Hinds, has landed the coveted role.
While it seems the role was first offered to Dominic West, EW now reports that Hinds will be portraying the pivotal character when the show returns in March 2013.
Mance Rayder is the leader of the Wildlings who live beyond the Wall, and was formerly of the Night’s Watch. When we last left Jon Snow, he was headed straight into the Wildlings’ camp to be confronted with the self-appointed King Beyond the Wall.
While Hinds is an accomplished actor who has starred in such productions as Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Rome, and most recently Political Animals, readers may remember him best for his role as Aberforth Dumbledore in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
He is far from the first Harry Potter actor to appear on Game of Thrones, of course. David Bradley, Natalia Tena, Michelle Fairley and Julian Glover have all had roles in the eight-part saga, and we are sure there are more overlaps.
But past roles aside, do you think that Ciarán Hinds a good choice for Mance?
