Sherlock‘s Benedict Cumberbatch and Doctor Who‘s Matt Smith just presented Steven Moffat with a Special Award at the Television BAFTA’s, and all three gave hilarious speeches! One of Cumberbatch’s Sherlock co-stars also won one of the night’s biggest awards!
Andrew Scott won the Best Supporting Actor award for his performance as Moriarty, beating out strong competition from Martin Freeman. Unfortunately, the show wasn’t as successful in other categories. Not only did Cumberbatch miss out on the Best Acting Award, but Sherlock also lost the Audience Vote to Celebrity Juice.
In happier news, the men behind Sherlock Holmes and The Doctor roasted and toasted both series show-runner in some lengthy — and hilarious — speeches. Check out footage of the award presentation below!
It’s hilarious to see how similar Matt and Benedict are to their characters, the former especially was flailing his arms and changing his pitch uncannily like a nine hundred year old Timelord. It was also great to see the tribute video to The Moff (a nickname which seems to have now become canon!) feature the true range of his writing finesse.
What do you think of the video? Are you glad that Scott won his award? Did Sherlock deserve more accolades?
