Universal Studios has reportedly passed on The Dark Tower, based on the Stephen King novel series of the same name.
Ron Howard (The Da Vinci Code, Angels and Demons) was set to direct the ambitious adaptation of King’s The Dark Tower into a film and television series. Universal Studios was in line to pick up the films, while NBC Universal was set to air the television series. Now it seems that Universal has passed on the project for a reason that is yet to be released.
It seems Universal Studios did not want to take the risk that came with adapting Stephen King’s The Dark Tower to the big and small screen, being that it would be quite an expensive project. The fact that the film series would have to be given an R rating in order to do the novels justice was probably a reason as well.
Deadline reports Warner Bros. could possibly step in to handle the project, which would be okay with me!
