Unfortunately, the Heroes reboot will not feature everyone’s favorite psychopath Sylar, as Zachary Quinto has vetoed a return.
The original Heroes (2006-2010) series was a mixed bag of, well, heroes.
After its spectacular first season, it seemed like the show was diluting itself with mediocre new characters, shifting the focus from the original group of memorable personalities including Hiro Nakamura (Masi Oka), Claire Bennet (Hayden Panettiere), Matt Parkman (Greg Grunberg), Peter Petrelli (Milo Ventimiglia) – and, of course, Sylar (Zachary Quinto).
In season 1, the terrifying, ruthless sociopath was just mysterious enough to intrigue viewers, while still being able to develop a layered personality. Then the Heroes writing team realized how popular he was, and over-exposed him to the point where audiences found it hard to take him seriously as either a villain or a hero.

Still, the power-absorbing character remains one of the most beloved from the NBC series, and Zachary Quinto has received a lot of very well-deserved praise for his portrayal.
It is therefore with mixed emotions that we report the news that Quinto (37) is, officially, not returning for Tim Kring’s revival miniseries Heroes: Reborn.
In an interview with Buzzfeed’s Kate Aurthur, Quinto reveals his reasons for turning down the opportunity:
“I talked to them about it, and Tim [Kring] reached out to me when they decided they were going to do it. We had a great conversation. It was such a meaningful experience for me – I loved that job, I loved those people… I just felt like I didn’t want to go back to it. Tim was very, very understanding… I just felt like I need to cultivate other outlets for myself.”
While we’d love to see Gabriel Gray back on screen, it’ll be interesting to see the new group of heroes square off against a brand new villain.
So far, the only returning actor is Jack Coleman (Noah Bennet), and considering the character’s involvement with tracking down people with special powers, we get why he fits into the reboot.
Chuck‘s Zachary Levi is set to star in Heroes: Reborn, probably as the lead hero. We can’t wait to see who else is joining him, and what kinds of special abilities they’ll have this time around.
