On the heels of last night’s X-Files season finale (which you either loved or hated), Fox and the cast are promising that they’ll try to make more seasons of the science fiction drama happen.
In a variety of post-mortem interviews, those who are close to the X-Files reboot starring David Duchovny as Mulder and Gillian Anderson as Scully confirmed that there are hopes to create another new season.
“They’re going to ask for more. The ratings were very good,” X-Files creator Chris Carter told THR on Monday (He’s not wrong — the premiere pulled in 20.3 million viewers in its first few days). “They were happy with the show. I talked to Dana Walden today. She said they’d very much like more, but nothing’s being negotiated yet.”
David and Gillian seem equally game for X-Files season 11. “I have been speaking with David pretty regularly. I think he’s game,” said Carter. “I have spoken to Gillian less frequently, but I believe she would be game. So I’m just working around their busy schedules. They both have families. It’s another practical matter.”
Fox has made a habit out of relaunching old series in recent years. X-Files aside, the network unveiled a one-off season of 24 titled Live Another Day starring Kiefer Sutherland in 2014. A spinoff series (without Sutherland) is now in development as well. Fox is also working on a new season of Prison Break with original stars Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell.
An eleventh season can easily happen thanks to that cliffhanger in the finale. “I have an idea of where the story goes,” Carter teased.
As we said, reactions to the February 22 season finale of X-Files were mixed. Here’s a sampling of what we saw on Twitter:
Stayed up late to watxh the finale of #XFiles. For real wish I hadn't. What a mess this revival turned out to be.

I'm not shocked or upset with finale. I know another mini-series is coming and not everything is wrapped up neatly w. a bow. XFiles style.
