The first official trailer for the zombie apocalypse thriller World War Z starring Brad Pitt has arrived online, giving a good luck at, you guessed it, zombies.
Directed by Marc Forster (Quantum of Solace), World War Z is based on the novel by Max Brooks following a UN employee, Gerry Lane (Pitt), who travels the world attempting to save it from a vicious zombie apocalypse. Watch the trailer below, originally via Apple.
While driving with his family in the city, Brad Pitt’s car gets clipped by a police officer who speeds by, he’s forced back into his car by another police officer who gets hit by a garbage truck.
Planes start flying over the city while the people scatter. Pitt grabs his family and flees the city. He looks to have some government connections, as he calls a friend and asks if “someone is doing better than us.”
We see that Pitt’s character is involved with the military in some way, possibly in his past as a United Nations employee. He’s asked to help his country and initially refuses, not wanting to leave his family, but looks to give in due to his civic duty.
This trailer for World War Z does its job. We’re excited. We see a zombie apocalypse spreading through major cities, literally in droves to climb walls – it looks massive. This film has been cloaked in secrecy and we’ve been dying to get a glimpse of the style and story of the film.
World War Z has undergone some serious production issues, causing Paramount to bring in Damon Lindelof (Prometheus, Lost) to completely rewrite the final act, delaying the film from a December 2012 release until its current scheduled release date of June 2013. Whether the film can overcome its very public production woes and deliver a competently made, entertaining film remains to be seen, although this trailer is a step in that direction.
While they don’t feature prominently in the trailer, Mireille Enos (The Killing) and Matthew Fox (Lost) co-star in the film, which was originally penned by Matthew Michael Carnahan (The Kingdom).
