Wonder Woman 2 is not yet officially in the works, but that’s not stopping us from daydreaming about the plot of the next Diana Prince solo movie.
Wonder Woman has been breaking records since it debuted on June 2, with many people saying it could be what sets the DCEU back on the right track. Speculation has also been circling over any news of a Wonder Woman 2.
Chances are there will be a Wonder Woman 2 with Gal Gadot at the helm. Whether or not Patty Jenkins will return to direct is still up in the air, but she’s stated that she has some ideas of where she’d like to see Diana Prince go next.
Regardless of what direction the studio decides to move in, we’ve got plenty of ideas of our own.
‘Wonder Woman 2’ plot ideas
A continuation of the story
This year’s Wonder Woman was a fairly standalone story, even considering we know we’ll be seeing Gal Gadot in Justice League to stand beside her fellow DC superheroes. That said, there is a tiny bit of room to move forward with the story.
This film focused on WWI, and we all know that WWII is just around the corner. Dr. Poison is still out there and could possibly be causing trouble just as the next World War is about to pick up. Mankind may not always be good or right, but they’re still worth fighting for. Diana came to this conclusion at the end of her first solo outing, but what happens when she realizes her work may never be done?
Wonder Woman as an ambassador
In the comics, Wonder Woman has served as an ambassador between mankind and the Amazons. It was her job to spread peace throughout the world, and now that she has revealed herself to the world of men, she can travel forth and continue the work she began in the first movie.
This would align itself nicely with Jenkins’ idea that Wonder Woman would have to go to the United States next. I imagine Diana would like to see where Steve Trevor came from and learn more about his life in the service. Aside from this, I bet the American government would be particularly interested in her origin story and how they could get her to work for them. In that case, though, they’ll probably be in for a rude awakening.
A new Wonder Woman
In the mid-’90s Queen Hippolyta called for a contest to crown a new Wonder Woman, claiming that Diana was too busy being a superhero to truly be the ambassador to mankind that the Amazons needed. Through a series of tests, Artemis, an Amazon from a rival tribe, was crowned the new Wonder Woman and made it her sacred duty to protect the Earth.
Artemis did not make for as good of a Wonder Woman as Diana did. She was often more violent and hadn’t gained the respect Diana had by fighting alongside man for so long. It proved that the idea of Wonder Woman was bigger than just someone who could punch out a bad guy. This plot could take place at any point in time and do much to solidify why Diana Prince, the person, is so important beyond the colors she wears and the sword she bears.
A secret sister
Did you know Diana Prince has a twin sister? Her name is Nubia and much the way Diana was formed out of white clay, Nubia was created from black clay. Wonder Woman has done much for the female superhero and while its cast was not completely white, there is always room to improve. Introducing Nubia would put the focus on a Black Amazon and allow little girls who look like her to have a hero they can truly see themselves as.
Better yet, Nubia’s story is actually tied into Ares’ presence in the comics. He stole Nubia when she was young and raised her to do his bidding. She wears a ring that allows Ares to manipulate her, and it’s only when Diana finally destroys it that Nubia is able to snap out of the mind control and become a force for good.
An Amazonian Civil War
I will be the first to admit that this story probably wouldn’t get a pass from studios and might not make for the best sequel, but would certainly be interesting to see on screen. Given a lot of women’s reactions to the movie, seeing more of Themyscira and the Amazons would be an added bonus. I love watching Diana interact with the outside world, but there’s something about all those ladies on horseback shooting arrows and swinging swords that would be a welcome sight in Wonder Woman 2.
In the comics, Hippolyta’s tribe and a rival tribe called the Bana-Mighdalls clash due to some godly interference. What was set up in Wonder Woman would have to be retracted in some way to make this work, but just imagine a basically all-female driven action movie that lets us explore more of the island’s background and what the Amazons are capable of. I know plenty of ladies who would throw their money at a film like this, and I’m certainly one of them.
