Just yesterday we told you about increased ticket prices at Universal Orlando’s Islands of Adventure, and there’s good reason for that hike: the park had the highest attendance growth amongst all United States parks in 2011.
Islands of Adventure had a 29% jump in attendance – 6 million in 2010 and 7.7 million in 2011.
It also accounted for nearly half of the total attendance growth at North America’s 20 largest theme parks combined, which together rose 2.9 percent in 2011. Subtract Harry Potter from the equation, and that North American growth rate would have been just 1.6 percent.
What’s more, the 1.7 million increase at Islands of Adventure was more than the total attendance gain (363,000) at all four of Walt Disney World’s larger theme parks.
Islands’ attendance growth far outpaced any other theme park on the continent. Only one other North American park even recorded a double-digit increase: SeaWorld San Diego, which unveiled a new sea turtle attraction and a revamped killer whale show in 2011 and saw attendance rise 13 percent to 4.3 million.
We’re very eager to see how the Wizarding World Orlando expansion will affect attendance – will it continue to skyrocket?
