Speaking to the Guardian last week, William Shatner revealed that he is currently penning a book about the late Leonard Nimoy.
Since passing in February of this year, many touching tributes to Leonard Nimoy have been made. Most recently, his son, Adam Nimoy, Kickstarted his planned documentary to chronicle his father’s life, thanks the kindness and support of his fans.
Now, Shatner has revealed that he will also immortalize Leonard Nimoy’s life, but in book form.
“I’m writing a book about Leonard,” Shatner told the Guardian. “I had a brother, whose life arc was so much like mine that we understood each other completely – our age, our birth, the same types of problems in our marriages – our careers arced in the same manner. We had a great deal in common, Leonard and I. And thusly we were able to understand each other. I’ve lost a dear friend.”
Shatner and Nimoy spent many years together co-starring on the Star Trek television series, and subsequent movies. His insight and knowledge of Nimoy’s life during that time, and after, would be an intimate and interesting look at the man beloved by many. It’d certainly be a title we’d be eager to pick up.

This won’t be the first time that Shatner has written a book. Alongside his co-writers Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens, Shatner penned several novels set in the Star Trek universe, chronicling the remainder of Captain James Kirk’s life. The books worked on the premise that Kirk was brought back to life following the events in Star Trek Generations, but are not generally considered canon. Fans affectionately dub this series the “Shatnerverse.”
No projected release date for Shatner’s book about Leonard Nimoy has been announced.
Shatner’s Man o’ War graphic novel, based on his sci-fi book of the same name, is currently available to purchase now. His TV movie, Chaos on the Bridge, chronicling the difficult early years of Star Trek: The Next Generation was released digitally on August 1 in the US, and releases today for the U.K.
