The world turned upside down at San Diego Comic-Con this year when two unexpected fandoms collided in the best way possible! The fandoms in question? The CW’s hit superhero drama, Arrow, and Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Broadway hit musical, Hamilton!
Comic-Con is already a place overflowing with fandom. From the panels to the cosplayers, you can be guaranteed to see something from a fandom you love every which way you turn. When fans gathered together for the Arrow panel, I’m pretty positive they weren’t ready for Hamilton to get thrown into the mix, but that’s exactly what happened.
It’s no secret for diehard Arrow fans that series lead Stephen Amell’s talents stretch far beyond acting. It turns out, he’s a bit of a singer — and he’s not the only cast member that can carry a tune!
During their panel at San Diego Comic-Con this year, the Arrow cast was asked by a fan if they ever planned on showing their more musical side during the show’s next season.
It was a good question — especially considering several of the actors have a musical theater background.
The answer, unfortunately, was a polite “probably not,” but even so, that didn’t stop the cast from deciding to treat everyone in attendance at Ballroom 20 on Saturday (July 23) to a little impromptu sing along.
The brilliant moment was actually a bit of a flub. It turns out, Amell had thought the fan who asked was asking the cast to sing a song for the audience. Lucky for us, series regular Echo Kellum (who plays Curtis) took the lead and started singing Hamilton‘s “You’ll Be Back.”
It didn’t take long before Vellum was joined by Felicity actress Emily Bett Rickards, after which the rest of the cast joyously joined in.
