More of Stephen King’s masterpieces are in the talks to be on the big screen – and will most likely become a trilogy and TV series! It’s sure to be outstanding, as there are two Oscar winners currently attached to the film.

While Universal seriously considered taking on the entire The Dark Tower project, they ultimately said no.  Now, Warner Bros. is almost finished closing the deal on The Dark Tower, with Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind) likely to direct the first installment of the trilogy.  Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men, Eat, Pray, Love.) is attached to portray the protagonist, Roland Deschain.  Producers include Akiva Goldsman (also the screenwriter), Brian Grazer and Stephen King.  If the deal comes through, the project probably wouldn’t start until early 2013.

Deadline provides a brief synopsis:

The Dark Tower is about the last living member of a knightly order of gunslingers, with Deschain becoming humanity’s last hope to save civilization as he hits the road to find the Dark Tower. Along the way, he encounters characters, good and bad, in a world that has an Old West feel.

The Dark Tower is actually the title of a series with eight installments. It’s unclear as of now which individual novels will be a part of the films.
