THQ announced today they are refocusing development on Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millenium from an MMO to a single player experience with multiplayer aspects.
“As previously announced, we have been actively looking for a business partner for the game as an MMO. However, based on changing market dynamics and the additional investment required to complete the game as an MMO, we believe the right direction for us is to shift the title from an MMO to a premium experience with single and multiplayer gameplay, robust digital content and community features,” said Brian Farrell, President and CEO of THQ Inc in a press release.
The shift makes sense for the financially-troubled publisher as MMO’s are notoriously costly to develop and maintain and the publisher will be able to finish the game themselves instead of seeking external help.
Unfortunately, the refocusing comes with a cost of 79 full-time employees from Vigil Games and 39 from Relic Entertainment.
Are you disappointed in the development shift or are you looking forward to another single-player experience in the Warhammer 40K universe after last year’s Space Marine?
