The answer to who Negan and Lucille kill in The Walking Dead TV series as retribution for Rick’s mistakes is one of the biggest questions we have about the fall 2016 season, and it looks like TWD showrunners are going to extraordinary lengths to keep it under lock and key.
In a report looking at the secrecy surrounding The Walking Dead season 7 premiere, which will finally unveil who Negan killed, THR reports that the show shot 11 character deaths. Meaning that, yes, Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan killed all of the characters who were kneeling before him during the season 6 finale (Carl, Rick, Michonne, Eugene, Maggie, Sasha, Daryl, Aaron, Rosita, Glenn, and Abraham). “The show’s producers and episode director are going to work with the editors to decide which character will be killed off in Season 7,” THR adds.
Despite these steps, one has to wonder how effective they’ll be at keeping people off the trail. The series is well into filming the seventh season, meaning that at least one of the actors is not shooting anything after TWD 7×01. There must be plenty of opportunities for fans to get close to set and see who’s present.
As for how to stop onlookers from catching glimpses of the filming, THR quotes co-star Sonequa Martin-Green (Sasha) who says they sometimes wear hoods or are moved around set in costume “in order to protect who’s still alive on the series.” The report states that they’ve also had to deal with drones flying overhead.
The Walking Dead comic series killed Glenn in this Negan/Lucille scene, but many are expecting the death to change for the show due to the Glenn fakeout earlier in season 6.
We hope to see these 10 other Negan deaths that hit the cutting room floor on the season 7 DVD/Blu-ray. Our guess is they’ll never release them, because to do so would arguably make them canon in a weird way.
You know what would’ve made this all easier? If they just showed us who Negan killed in the season 6 finale during the season 6 finale, like we deserved ?
