There’s been a lot of talk about the upcoming series Fear The Walking Dead, but what about the original? Today we have news concerning the first new character joining The Walking Dead for season 6.
Corey Hawkins has been cast in the recurring role of Heath, a character found in Robert Kirkman’s Walking Dead comic series.
In the comics, Heath is a resident of Alexandria whose job there is to be a supply runner. He first meets Rick, Abraham, and Aaron when he needs help fending off zombies while out on a run. He is the love interest of Denise, a doctor at Alexandria (who hasn’t appeared on the TV show, nor has she been cast yet). Denise and Heath both make their debuts in issue 69 of the comic series.
At this time it’s unknown how close to the comics the TV version of Heath will be.
Presumably he’ll be very similar. THR revealed a still of Hawkins in his role of Heath, viewable above, and as you can see from the side-by-side comparison, they did a good job of making the two version of Heath look very similar.
The Walking Dead season 6 is expected to premiere this October on AMC. With the first casting announcement now out in the wild, we’re sure we’ll be hearing about other new characters (like Denise?) joining the show soon.
The show is also expected to have a big presence at next month’s San Diego Comic-Con as they have in years past. It’s typically the first place the upcoming season’s trailer and air date are unveiled.
Meanwhile, AMC is launching a spinoff (“companion”) series to The Walking Dead titled Fear The Walking Dead this August. The show will follow a completely different set of characters in Los Angeles as the zombie infection begins to break out across the world.
