Amanda Waller really is DC Comics’ Nick Fury: DC is planning to use Viola Davis in not just Suicide Squad, but several upcoming superhero movies.
While no official statement has yet been made, everyone is assuming that Viola Davis’ deal with DC Comics to play Amanda Waller in the already star-spangled Suicide Squad has been all but finalised.
Speaking recently about her new movie Blackhat, Davis openly discussed the complex character, saying, “I’m fascinated by her. I think that she is a massive contradiction. She’s this big powerful black woman, hard, ready to pick up a gun and shoot anyone at will. I’m fascinated in exploring her psychology, just put it that way. And I’m excited to pick up a gun.”
She’s still working out how to fit the filming into her schedule, as the two-time Oscar nominee is of course tied up with ABC’s How To Get Away With Murder.
But now, The Wrap is reporting that now only will Davis lead the team of unlikely heroes in Suicide Squad, but she’s “nearing a multi-picture deal” with DC to star in several of their upcoming comic book movies.
It wouldn’t be out of place for Amanda Waller to pop up in other movies: as a prominent member of Task Force X, she has contact with a lot of DC’s darker villains and antiheroes, including Batman and Superman.
Now we’ll just have to wait for DC Comics’ official announcement about Davis’ involvement! She’s certainly a perfect Amanda, so let’s hope it works out.
Suicide Squad stars Tom Hardy as Rick Flagg, Jared Leto as The Joker, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Will Smith as Deadshot, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang and Cara Delevingne as Enchantress.
