The first issue of the Chrononauts comic hadn’t even hit shelves before Universal nabbed up the movie rights.
From the minds of Mark Millar and Sean Gordon Murphy comes Chrononauts, an Image Comics series about a couple of science geniuses who invent time travel. It may or may not be inspired by the board game of the same name.
The official description of the comic book series reads:
“Corbin Quinn and Danny Reilly are two buddies who love to have fun. They’re also scientific geniuses. When their research leads them to a time-traveling adventure, will they use their knowledge for the good of all mankind? Or use the space-time continuum for their own ends? This is the story of man’s first, televised steps through the time-stream and everything going wrong in the process.”
Universal Pictures has optioned the comic, and Chris Morgan (Fast & Furious 6) has signed on to produce under his Chris Morgan Productions banner. Series creators Millar and Murphy will serve as executive producers.
The first issue of Chrononauts hit stores yesterday. IGN has published a highly complimentary review of the new series, writing, “Though not without its hiccups, issue #1 is bold, brash, and a heck of a lot of fun.”
“Equal parts sci-fi tale and bromantic comedy,” Chrononauts promises to be a wild ride with sympathetic leads, and a recognizable formula (we’re thinking Bad Boys meets 21 Jump Street, with a dash of Hot Fuzz). IGN promises “gorgeous visuals,” which probably helped sell the concept to studio executives.
Let’s hope Chrononauts makes it through development hell.
