It’s about to get a little easier to tweet. Starting soon, Twitter will stop counting your images and links in their pesky 140 character lim
Above typo intentional! ?
Bloomberg reports that Twitter plans to make the change within the next two weeks. When enacted, tweets with an image and a link will have an additional 47 characters to work with. That’s especially helpful for publishers (like us!) who frequently don’t have enough room for a headline, a link, and a photo — all important elements for getting y’all to pay attention.
A few years ago Twitter started to automatically shorten all links, which made it easier to plan a tweet. Thanks to the shortened links, we always knew that links would only take up 23 characters.
Earlier this year we told you Twitter was contemplating greatly expanding the tweet limit to as many as 10,000 characters. This naturally caused a lot of backlash amongst Twitter users, who enjoy Twitter because the messages are short. The social media service spoke publicly about the rumors, and said they’d since nixed the idea.
But surely everyone will be able to get behind freeing up a little more room in a tweet by not counting links and photos as part of the limit.
