USA Network just aired “Blind Sided,” the mid-season premiere of Suits, on the east coast. Read the recap and join the episode discussion here!
Picking up right where the show left off during the finale, Mike (Patrick J. Adams) and Tess (Elisabeth Hower) are smoking in his apartment, discussing what will happen in the near future – her husband coming back, Mike returning to work, and his now severely damaged relationship with Rachel (Meghan Markle). As we see throughout the episode, Rachel is not happy with Mike at all, and doesn’t seem to be warming up to him anytime soon.
The case of the week is about a stoned driver who hits and kills a pedestrian. Throughout the episode we catch glimpses into the pain Mike is reliving by being so close to a case that was similar to the accident that killed his parents. In an effort to combat the conflict of interest, Harvey (Gabriel Macht) suggests he sit this one out. But, Mike being the hardheaded fake-lawyer that he is, insists on continuing on.
Rachael Harris returns, reprising her role as intense Harvard Law representative Shelia Sazs, who has been one of the few people who can go head-to-head with Louis Litt. After helping oust Hardman in the mid-season finale, Louis was promoted to senior partner and, therefore, can hire his own associate. Shelia demands he meet her in a hotel room the next night, with coconut oil, a ski mask, and duct tape. We might not want to know what they use those for, but it’s nice to see Louis getting some of the attention he deserves.
We’re introduced to Katrina Bennett (Amanda Schull), the lawyer going up against Harvey for the case. She reveals that she wants to leave her current position at the D.A.’s office and, “make the jump Harvey did… to Pearson Hardman.” As we find out later in the episode, Harvey does offer her a position at the firm and tries to get Mike to see how big of a liability he can be with the threat of exposure constantly on their back.
Louis hires a busy-body first year associate who already seems to be willing to take anyone down who stands in her way. However, she declares to Donna that she knows everyone in her class at Harvard, and Mike Ross was not one of them, even though they should’ve been in the same year. Uh-oh. Thankfully, Jessica steps in, still exhibiting less-than-favorable feelings towards Louis and demands he rescind the offer.
Jacinda Barrett, Gabriel Macht’s wife, makes her return as Zoe, the competitive lawyer that Harvey has growing romantic feelings for. Zoe becomes much more three-dimensional tonight as we learn that not only is her brother close to death, but she will soon take custody of her young niece. There is certainly a budding romance there as Harvey offers her compassion like we’ve never seen before in what seems to be major character development. It’s a testament to both the writing and actors.
The first episode of 2013 is jam-packed with new characters and story lines. With five episodes left in season 2, what do you think will happen to Harvey, Mike, and the rest of Pearson Hardman?
