Since the dawn of Tinder, the site has offered two swipe options to reject or accept someone.
It’s time to retrain your thumbs and their Tinder-ing abilities, because now there’s a new swipe. Tinder this weekend launched “Super Like,” a third swipe option (up!) which lets you tell someone you really like them.
The Super Like can only be used once per day, and once the person you’ve Super Like’d comes across your profile, they’ll immediately be notified that you Super Like’d them before they have a chance to swipe left or right on your face. This’ll give them a chance to take a closer look at you before deciding your fate.
Tindr believes the Super Like is a way to make someone feel special, and tests conducted in Australia over the past month have yielded remarkable results. “Users are three times more likely to match with someone they Super Like and conversations initiated by a Super Like last 70% longer,” according to the app’s blog.
Here’s what the new interface looks like. Note: The Passport button has been moved to the Discovery preferences to make way for the new Super Like button.
Many criticize Tinder for putting too much emphasis on a person’s looks, and those debates will surely continue in light of the Super Like. With that said, I can imagine I would feel very flattered if someone decided to swipe up on me. Me! Little ol’ Andy getting someone’s Super Like. I must be doing something right!
Time will tell if the Super Like can keep up the impressive engagement numbers Tinder wrote about. Users may be spending more time interacting with Super Like-ers right now since the feature is fresh in everyone’s app, but will the shine of the new swipe lose its luster in the months ahead?
On the other hand, swiping up may be a great way to tell someone you really want to have sex with them without being crude about it.* So at least there’s that!
*This statement only applies to people who use Tinder for sex. That may not be you!
