Speaking at last night’s SAG Awards red carpet, Tina Fey revealed that she and her husband are trying to develop a musical based on the movie Mean Girls and that she would want Mariah Carey to play one of the parts!
Fey, who starred, wrote and directed the now classic comedy, told E! Online that she is trying to make it happen with her husband:
“Maybe! We want to. I would love to. I’m trying to develop it with my husband, who does all the music for ’30 Rock’ and I think Paramount’s onboard.”
As for who she has in mind to play the parts, Fey did reveal that she would want Mariah Carey to play Regina’s mother (played by Amy Poehler in the movie):
“Maybe she can play Amy Poehler’s part in the musical.”
We can’t think of a better thing to happen to Broadway than for there to be a Mean Girls musical! A couple weeks ago we pitched several show ideas for Tina and Amy to do together but maybe it’s the Great White Way where Tina will find her next project?
With Paramount “onboard” as Fey says, it looks like this is a little more than just a hopeful idea. We’ll keep you updated on all the details about Mean Girls: The Musical. Who would you cast in the various roles?
