After last week’s crazy turn of events, it’s tough to say what might happen on The Whispers season 1, episode 8. Check out our recap of tonight’s episode.
Jessup did the right thing and took Henry to Claire and Sean, rather than kidnapping him for the government.
Wes gets chewed out by his C.O. for what happened at the fulgurite site. Wes insists that Drill is dead, due to no evidence of electric energy at the site. He tries to convince his C.O that the Bennigans were not working against them, but he doesn’t seem to be budging on their guilt or innocence.
Henry lets his parents know that before he was picked up, Drill contacted him, and was mad about what they tried to do.
Wes tells Lena about Drill being gone. When he gives her the timetable, Lena lets him know that she talked to Drill through Minx less than an hour ago. Minx lies when Lena takes Wes to confront her about it, and pretends that Drill was not there.
Claire and Sean take Henry to a motel for the night and to wash up a bit before they continue running. They reminisce a bit about better times, and Sean tells Claire that they will be a family again when this is all over.
Jessup receives some research that Claire ordered a week or so before. It reveals that a child was in contact with Drill back in 1982. This reveals that Drill has been here before, but was somehow stopped.
Claire lets Wes know that Drill survived the EMP from the night before. She also lets him know where they’re headed, and we see the lights flicker on a vending machine next to the pay phone he’s using. Wes then calls home to talk to Lena, and when she gets his message, she is hiding in the garage in the dark.
Minx tells her mom that she’s sorry she lied about Drill, and that Drill has a message for Lena. He’s going to use Scrabble-like tiles to give Lena a message. When she sees the message, she tells Drill she will not play. Ever.
Claire arrives at the address of the boy that spoke with Drill in the ’80s. The father is about to shut the door in the Bennigan’s faces when they tell him that Henry has been talking to Drill. He’s alarmed.
Wes gets fired by his boss for getting things wrong and for talking to Claire and Sean, who are basically fugitives now. Before he can even get home, Lena goes looking for Minx when she doesn’t respond to her call for lunch. She finds her on the roof, right below a sparking power line. Minx heard from Drill as she stood there, and asked her mom (for Drill) if she is ready to play now.
The father of the boy that talked to Drill in the ’80s tells Sean and Claire about how he was working for NASA and they intercepted a signal. Days later, the boy, Thomas, told his father that the alien was already here. He then killed his brother and said that Drill made him do it.
Wes returns home and confronts Minx about her lies. Wes makes her promise not to keep Drill a secret from him anymore. He wants to know if she hears from Drill. She hints that she thinks her mom is going to do something bad, and he knows that Drill finally got his message to Lena. As we listen to the story from Thomas’ father, we see Wes discover that his gun and bullets are missing from the safe, and then Lena driving suspiciously.
Claire wants to find Thomas now, but his father doesn’t know anything about his current location. He gives them some old home movies, but that’s all he has to give. He goes to check on the kids. One of the movies shows Thomas and his brother, Elliot, going out to where the dead boy was found. Thomas is seen apologizing to the camera before they sneak through a fence.
Claire has Jessup look for Elliot’s name instead of Thomas’. They get a hit, and Jessup passes the address on to Claire and Sean. The film strip they were just watching burns up after they leave, as Drill turns the projector back on.
Wes has Jessup track Lena’s whereabouts and discovers that she is dangerously close to where Sean and Claire just were. He believes that she is going after them somehow.
Claire, Sean, and Henry arrive at Thomas’ house, and when they don’t get an answer to their knock, they send Henry to lock himself in the car and they break the glass and enter the house. When they walk in, there’s no electricity, and all the appliances are gas powered.
Lena stops at a gas station just a little more than a half a mile away. She is doubting herself when a little girl knocks on the window. The little girl says, “My friend says you need to hurry. You’re running out of time.” CREEPY much?
Thomas locks Claire and Sean in the basement after they wander down there looking for him. He wants to know if Sean and Claire are from the hospital, and when Claire tells him they aren’t and Sean talks about the things that Drill made him do, Thomas lets them out.
Henry panics when he can’t get out of the car, but soon Lena Lawrence stops right next to the car. He watches as she walks into the house, gun drawn.
Thomas shows Sean and Claire a record of hundreds of nuclear tests over a long period of time that eventually became a beacon. Drill felt the beacon and discovered that only kids could speak to him. Thomas refers to Drill as ‘the Whispers.’ When Thomas learns that Drill is talking to Henry, and insists that the Bennigans leave. He is terrified that Drill could have followed them. He doesn’t want to hear the Whispers again.
Thomas insists that this cannot be the same Drill. He believes that he killed Drill. Sean asks Thomas how he killed Drill, and before the man can answer, Lena walks down the stairs and unloads a clip into Thomas.
Claire tries to stop the bleeding, but Thomas is dying before their eyes. She begs him to let her know how he killed Drill. Claire calls for Wes, and lets him know that this man knows how to get rid of Drill. They have to save him, but if they take him to a hospital, Lena will be arrested.
