The Walking Dead‘s Super Bowl commercial didn’t disappoint expectant fans as zombies got tame for TV.
Last night’s Super Bowl was epic for many reasons. In a nail-biting fight to the finish, the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers came head to head in a three point difference finish, with the Ravens finally claiming the title they have aspired to for many seasons.
But sport aside, television fans typically clamour over the anticipated Super Bowl commercials, and with The Walking Dead it was no different.
In a funny twist in the commercial, walkers are seen as more of a household pest than the scourge of the undead typified in The Walking Dead. As a typical suburban mom tried to get on top of the home chores, zombies got in her way and under her feet.
Norman Reedus, also known as Daryl Dixon in the show, was a surprising main feature in the commercial too. Complete with crossbow and a pile of de-animated corpses in the living room, he looked ashamed when he was told off for making a mess. Apparently even a zombie-killing machine listens when he’s told to clean up after himself!
Classic The Walking Dead features included:
- The mom washing guts off a huge knife in the kitchen sink.
- ‘Don’t Open, Dead Inside’ having been written on the daughter’s bedroom door where a walker was chained up.
- The lurker dragging itself along the wooden floors in the hallway.
Brilliant.
Despite their apparent domestication in this advert, we doubt the walkers will be quite so disciplined in the mid-season return.
AMC’s The Walking Dead makes it’s way back onto our screens this Sunday, Feb 10, 9/8 ET/PT.
