The Walking Dead‘s Andrew Lincoln has supported comments by David Morrisey regarding the upcoming clash in the midseason comeback this Sunday, Feb. 10. What can we expect from the show’s return?
There’s little doubt that with The Walking Dead coming back to our screens this Sunday, the debate of what’s going to happen is heating up. In particular, AMC and creator of The Walking Dead Robert Kirkman are drawing our attention to the potential collision between the Governor and Rick Grimes, our main protagonist.
As previously reported, David Morrisey, who plays the Governor – the season 3 adversary – teased fans by suggesting that the second part of season 3 of The Walking Dead may not play out as expected.
In an interview with SFX Morrisey said:
What I’ve liked about the season so far is that it’s full of surprises. Obviously the stars might be aligned for Rick and The Governor to have some sort of meeting, but maybe the show will shoot that in a very surprising way. I think it’s not going to give you what you want in the way that you want it, and I think that’s what I’ve enjoyed in the second half of the season.
Whilst this alone has us mind-boggled, what with the enormity of the suggestion that we should be expecting the unexpected, whatever confrontation might occur between Rick and the Governor is going to be explosive. But following the promos released by AMC for season 3.5 Rick is starting to look like the strain is taking its toll. In fact, we’ve already seen Rick reach the point of insanity upon the death of Lori and the birth of his daughter Judith (despite the uncertainty that Judith is definitely his biological offspring).
With all that is at stake, Rick’s heading to some pretty mentally stretching stuff. Speaking to TV Guide, Lincoln teased:
It’s a wrestling match that is very internalized, even with his very physical wrestling match with the Governor. If ever he wanted to try to take the prison or prey on Rick’s weaknesses, the Governor couldn’t have found a better time.
It doesn’t sound like things are looking great for Rick at all. What’s more, Lincoln indicated that Morrisey wasn’t joking when he said things weren’t going to pan out as we suspect. Indeed, Lincoln added that it “doesn’t go in a way that is at all obvious.”
Given everything that Lincoln has said regarding Rick’s mental stability, as well as Morrisey’s implication that things are going to have our heads spinning, we’re thinking The Walking Dead is going to have us on the edge of our seats!
Could Rick give up? Might the Governor take over the prison? Who else from team prison may not make it to season 4? Whatever happens, we know it’s not going to be one to miss.
The Walking Dead is back this Sunday, Feb. 10 at 9/8 p.m. PT/ET.
