The Walking Dead fans are dying with anticipation for season 4. Tonight they got a glimpse into what’s to come.
Showrunners have been promising, or perhaps threatening fans depending on your point of view, with a whole new level of danger. They’ve also been stating that the walkers will present a greater threat then before.
Tonight’s clip didn’t exactly reveal the full extent of the new new threat, but it did give us walker action.
The clip features Michonne (Danai Gurira) returning to the prison compound on horseback. As she rides up to the main gate, Carl (Chandler Riggs) opens it, but not before several walkers follow her into what looks like a holding area between the newly-rigged main gate and then a secondary opening into the main compound. Michonne leaps from her horse and is in hand-to-hand combat with two walkers, seemingly not having time to brandish her katana effectively. Both Carl, and Maggie (Lauren Cohan), who appears from the surviving watchtower, start to come to her aid.
It’s obvious that the survivors have reinforced the prison since last season’s tank attack. The main gate is now a thick metal structure operated by some kind of manual pulley system that Carl seems to struggle with. It doesn’t open or close quickly, and it seems quite heavy.
It’s also interesting that horseback is Michonne’s choice of transportation. Was she on some kind of overland mission that would have made a car impractical. Riding a horse through a sea of walkers who consider both humans and horses dinner, doesn’t seem like the best of ideas.
Perhaps the horse was the only thing that was available? Better to take your chances on horseback than on foot? Neither Carl nor Maggie seemed to expect Michonne. Carl looks surprised as he opens the gate as quickly as he can and then runs for a rifle.
The clip released at Comic-Con shows Michonne, Daryl, newcomer Bob Stookey, and Tyreese running from an overrun car. Maybe this is Michonne finding her way back from that incident?
