The Voice is back, with returning judge Christina and last season’s standout Pharrell joining old standbys Adam and Blake.
It’s that time again, folks. America’s favorite reality competition has returned, with a whole new crop of talent and the same cast of idiot coaches we’ve grown to love.
The Voice always goes big with their Super Bowl ads, and this year was no different. They put together a Mad Max-themed battle-dome that frankly is going to make season 8’s actual debut seem a little bit boring by comparison. Also, this is without a doubt the most animated we will ever see host Carson Daly. Singin’ time is here, folks. Get ready for season 8.
Coaching Lineup
Check out season 8’s coaches performing the Lenny Kravitz hit, “Are You Gonna Go My Way?” Tune in to find out how the coaches do at convincing the contestants to go their way.
Christina Aguilera
4 seasons, 0 wins
The original Voice queen is back, and ready to rumble. She’s taken a break since season 5, but she is back with fresh ears and is ready to battle with her fellow coaches. Though she has yet to win a season, she has always been in the mix until the very end, and is unafraid to fight for the contestants and performances she is really passionate about. Maybe this is the year that Queen Christina finally reigns supreme.
Pharrell Williams
1 season, 0 wins
Pharrell was the new kid on the block last season, and some viewers were a little unsure of how the soft-spoken Renaissance man would fare in what has become a relentless cage match between the other coaches, particularly Adam and Blake. But Pharrell shocked all of us when his soft-spoken, beautifully-worded pleas drew everyone in, from contestants to viewers at home, and made him impossible to ignore. It’s obvious Pharrell knows what he’s talking about, and when he has something to say, you can’t help but listen.
Adam Levine
8 seasons, 2 wins
Adam Levine is an old veteran around these parts, but still has the eagerness of a young kid trying to prove himself. Sure, Adam’s had a successful career and has a lot to offer, but he has one very simple key to success as a coach: he is relentless. He picks and chooses his turns very carefully, but when he really wants a contestant, he will not stop until he has them. He will beg, plead, argue, bargain, flatter, flirt, whatever it takes. He will stand on his chair and shout over the other coaches until he renders himself completely impossible to ignore. Adam’s itching to catch up to Blake’s wins, and it will only make him fight harder.
Blake Shelton
8 seasons, 4 wins
Blake has been around since season 1, but all that experience comes with a very impressive record to prove it. He has won four of the past seven seasons. That is ridiculous. On a very basic strategic level, any contestant would be stupid not to pick Blake as their coach, because he obviously knows how to coach singers to success. Not only does he have the winning-est record, but his contestants have seen the most post-show success, win or lose. It’s good to be on Team Blake, and all he has to do is point to his head in that dopey way to remind you.
Season 8 Talent
Season 8 looks to be just as chock-full of talent as the previous seasons. Check out these promising blind auditions:
Sarah Potenza
Once again, one of the best things about The Voice is that it all starts with blind auditions. In the blinds, the coaches are left to only hear the contestants’ voices, without the distractions of looks and clothes and everything else. Sarah Potenza looks like she might be a little bit older than most Voice contestants, and she has her own look, but none of that matters, because she absolutely kills it with her rendition of The Faces “Stay With Me.”
Sawyer Fredericks
Sawyer Fredericks, on the other hand, is only 15. 15! And has a head of gloriously shiny hair. But all of that aside, his rendition of “I’m a Man of Constant Sorrow” was incredible. We’re pretty sure no one else has covered George Clooney in their blind audition, but Sawyer absolutely did everything he needed to do to prove that he has something different and interesting to bring to the table. For only 15 years old, Sawyer seems to be wise beyond his years.
